If you join this workshop, you will get a one afternoon introduction to the open spectrophotometer with two fun experiments! We'll use red cabbage and shows that its colour changes with acidity. Want to see how damaged the DNA in your cells might be? You will learn about genomic integrity during this half-day workshop in the Hackuarium laboratory. Bring a toothbrush to collect your own cheek cells. We'll examine them to find out whether you can see many micronuclei (or, hopefully, not)! You will also be able to learn more about quantitative biological research and explore moss life (which also has developed special strategies to protect genomic integrity)! Why not listen to yeast fermenting, paramecia swimming and moss singing? By choosing this reward, you will get an invitation to the concert of Living Instruments on Wednesday 31 January 2018 at Le Bourg in Lausanne and participate to an exclusive visit at Hackuarium the evening before the performance! We will give you an introductory presentation about the inner workings of the bee society as it changes throughout the year. Join our Beer DNA workshop at Hackuarium and learn everything about DNA sequencing and the BeerDeCoded project! We will welcome you in our laboratory and later sequence your favourite beer. You can bring any beer, commercial or home-brewed, or choose a beer from our premium list. Come spend one full day in the laboratory of Hackuarium to build your own instrument with the person of your choice! You will learn how to design the electronics, solder the circuits, create the box and program the device. When it’s done, you will of course learn how to use it and bring it home to do all the experiments you ever dreamed of. You will be invited to a full day workshop at Hackuarium to learn everything about genomes and build a small DIY microscope for your to take home! In this workshop you make your own microfluidic chip using our in-house developed super low-cost method. The goal of the workshop is to share how we currently make our device. You will get a chance to visit and inspect our local hives in the Spring of 2018. That afternoon, we will give you a presentation of the BeeMoS project and tell you everything about the lives of bees. The Living Instruments project has already been performed abroad, and in 2018, we go on tour again! With your contribution, you will allow the instruments to travel to another exciting location. London? Berlin? Graz? Tokyo? There are many festivals and venues ready to welcome us. But we need your help to cover the travel of our 5 big suitcases. As a reward, and on top of an invitation to the concert and private visit of the Hackuarium laboratory on the day of your choice (see «Support the Living Instruments!» above), you will get regular updates on the planning of the tour, and a personal invitation to every concert! You can choose a location in a country that is close to your heart, and offer a school there a spectrophotometer workshop (after discussion with us to make sure we can actually go there). Your contribution will help children learn more about science using simple and funny experiments using our open-source spectrophotometers.
