Discover the CLOUD
The Avenue des Grandes-Communes - under the layer of heat absorbed by the dark asphalt - struggles with heat waves, as do most urban spaces.
We want to bring a parenthesis of coolness in this environment; the use of misting outside creates a microclimate and allows to lower the temperature around the structure by some 15°C.
Our concept of urban CLOUD and its round, moving shapes, is a dreamlike pause in this geometrically traced space. We tought the project to be an invitation to daydream and play; a place of passage, but also of meetings.
Enjoy a mist bath
While the upper floors of the structure are dedicated to misting, the first is a floor with some tarpaulin seatings. Our idea is to give this platform a shape, which is inspired by the shadow of the cloud, and to offer a way to inhabit the urban space.
Imagine a summer afternoon, with the sun making the atmosphere extremely hot. On the platform, sheltered by the cloud, children are playing while waiting for an ice cream. Some elders have taken advantage of the fresh air to go outside. Others take a mist bath on the seats.
We control the timing of the misting. At regular intervals, the installation starts up to form a cloud in a way to create a punctual and ephemeral event.
Sponsor the city of tomorrow
We chose misting, because it is a simple technique. It is currently the most resource-efficient solution for cooling large spaces. For the urban CLOUD we planned an installation of two hundred ultra-fine nozzles in which water is sent at high pressure, allowing you to be surrounded by mist while keeping your clothes dry.
For students like us, the cost of a misting system is still a barrier to our dream of being able to contribute on a small scale to the improvement of our common urban space. Thanks to your support, we will make this project happen this summer, installed on the Avenue des Grandes-Communes in Onex (GE).
