This is what it's all about.
«Hopes and Fears» (working title) is a documentary film that sheds light on the situation of young Russian artists in Georgia.
Since the outbreak of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine in 2022, many young Russians, including numerous artists, have settled in the neighboring country of Georgia, mainly in Tbilisi. The capital not only offers them refuge but also provides plenty of unused space for their artistic expression. In recent years, numerous small and larger cultural venues have emerged, run by these young people. What initially appears to be a cultural enrichment for Tbilisi, however, also leads to social tensions between the Georgian and Russian populations.
Our project is special because ...
The documentary captures the lives and work of young Russian artists in Tbilisi. We portray various cultural venues that have been set up in vacant, often dilapidated spaces, as well as the people who founded them or visit them regularly. Through diverse interviews, we show what drives these people, the challenges they face, their fears, and their dreams. Additional interviews also include the perspectives of the Georgian population.
Our vision is to depict the powerful connection between art, space, and identity. Through impressive visuals and personal stories, we aim to draw the audience’s attention to the universal themes of migration, cultural exchange, and the significance of space for artistic development in a politically sensitive context.
The documentary is intended not only to provide a window into the world of these young artists but also to provoke thought and discussion. We hope this film will help illuminate the complex dynamics of exile, integration, and cultural enrichment, fostering a deeper understanding of the challenges and hopes of these young people. Ultimately, the documentary offers a new perspective on the geopolitical developments in Russia and Georgia and their complex interrelations.
To realize the documentary, we are collaborating with young Russian filmmakers living in Tbilisi who are part of the community we are portraying.
This is what we need backing for.
To make this project a reality, we need your support! We have set three clear funding goals.
- Funding Goal Number 1: CHF 5’000 - Filming and Teaser Production
With the first goal of CHF 5’000, we can cover the essential costs for filming.
This includes:
Cameraman: Professional footage is crucial to authentically and compellingly tell the stories.
Director and Sound Engineer: They will ensure the film has the right creative direction and high-quality sound.
Equipment: To capture the best images and sounds, we need professional equipment.
Teaser Production: A convincing teaser is necessary to approach Swiss production companies and gain further support.
- Funding Goal Number 2: Additional CHF 3’500 - Post-Production
Once filming is complete, we need an additional CHF 3’500 for post-production. This covers:
Translations: To make the stories accessible to a wider audience. Editing: Professional film editing to piece together the best scenes and narratives.
Music Production: Customized film music that enhances the emotions and atmosphere of the film.
Sound Engineering: Fine-tuning the sound to create an immersive auditory experience.
- Funding Goal Number 3: Another CHF 3’500 - Distribution and Film Festivals
After completing the film, we want to present it to an international audience. The final CHF 3’500 will be used for:
Festival Submissions: Participating in film festivals to showcase the film to a broader audience and gain recognition.
Promotion and Marketing: Activities to promote the film, such as press work, social media campaigns, and promotional materials.
Distribution: Support for distributing the film in various countries and on different platforms.
By reaching our third goal of CHF 12’000, we can complete and distribute the entire film. Your support will not only help us realize our dream but also tell important stories of courage and creativity in times of change.
