How did we come up with this idea?
We invite you to immerse yourself in the world of from2tv with us and co-finance the first episode «HEAT». Our joint master’s thesis creates a new visual entertainment format, an exciting mix of breaking news, talk shows, musical intermezzos, scientific experiments, discussions and on-site reports.
We are Yvee and Connor, collaborators in the Master’s program in Design at the Basel University of Art and Design. At the beginning of our Master’s program, we presented our portfolios and immediately realized that we would complement each other well in a collaboration and could create something bigger together than we could alone!
Our different skills and professional experience in various areas of design offer great potential for the implementation of our joint project from2tv. This project will be an exciting challenge for both of us. We are not only connected by similar sources of inspiration and aesthetic perspectives, but also by social issues that will serve as the basis for stimulating discourses within our format from2tv.
We see ourselves as designers of a new visual entertainment format that is intended to stimulate thought without being morally didactic.
What is from2tv and what is our goal
from2tv is our innovative media project that focuses on exploring and creatively staging the absurdities of modern life. Based on a traditional TV station, we combine real messages and data about the conditions of reality and transform them into film and audio formats. Our goal is to address and visualize both personal and external concerns. Our first episode entitled «HEAT» from the «Basic» season deals with the first of eight basic physiological needs of humans. We explore the question of how basic human needs manifest themselves in a constantly changing world. The episode is moderated by two hosts who lead through the program and provide a platform for the respective guests of from2tv. The diversity of the invited experts ranges from professors from the Basel Climate Science and Ancient History Lab to operators of wellness oases to pet caregivers and climate seniors. These guests bring different perspectives and expertise to the discussion, allowing us to present a wide range of insights and experiences. Our program is an exciting mix of different formats such as breaking news, talk shows, musical interludes, scientific experiments, discussions and on-site reports. In this way, we create a dynamic dialogue that not only informs, but also entertains and stimulates thought.
The common goal: In the digital world in which algorithms control our consumer behavior, we often encounter the danger of filter bubbles. We quickly get stuck in our own «bubble», surrounded by people who hold similar views. Exchanges outside the box are often neglected. If we only communicate within our bubble, we risk developing a distorted worldview. We do not hear other perspectives, do not see alternative solutions and lose the ability to deal with others empathetically. This can lead to polarization, where dialogue and understanding have less and less space. In view of these challenges, the question arises as to how we can break down rigid patterns of thinking and behavior and allow more diversity in our everyday lives. The vision of from2tv is to establish a colorful network in which people with different backgrounds and perspectives interact and cooperate with each other. We see this as a step in the right direction. Such a platform can not only intensify the exchange between different groups, but also help to break down stereotypical patterns of thinking.
How is the idea implemented: The production of from2tv combines real stage sets with miniature models that represent various fictional or realistically recreated spaces. These two elements are creatively combined to create specific segments. A simple example is the recording of stage elements and actors in front of a green screen, which are then inserted into the miniature environment in real time. This mixed scale reality creates a playful framework for developing new visions of the future and exploring alternative perspectives on our past and present. Miniature clothing items can be attached to actors using motion tracking, while life-sized objects enter miniature spaces and interact with life-sized actors.
Your help
We need your support so that we can get started. We are infinitely grateful for every contribution, even the smallest! With your contribution we can already cover a large part of the production costs. It is very important to us that we can pay our crew and the actors a small salary for their collaboration. We use the rest to cover the costs of materials and equipment. If the goal is exceeded, we will use the money for the next of the eight episodes.
