10th issue of High on the Sound
The 10th issue of High on the Sound will be released on February 27. We will celebrate this with a big release party at Südpol in Lucerne, featuring the bands Doom!NooYelbek and AsInPlastic. For each issue, two graphic designers are given a carte blanche and are free to design the magazine as they wish. Issue 10 is designed by the two graphic designers Michèlle Räz and Anaïs Peter.
Music meets art and design
High on the Sound is primarily a music magazine based in Lucerne that engages deeply with the young and emerging music scene in Switzerland. At its core are the musicians themselves: their stories, their music, and the creative processes behind the songs. Mario Scialdone visits bands in their rehearsal spaces or accompanies them at concerts. Through interviews, readers get to know the people behind the music, while photographic portraits capture the creative everyday life — from focused rehearsals to energetic performances on stage. Alongside this clear focus on music, the magazine also opens up space for visual art. Each issue includes artistic double-page spreads that are as diverse as art itself: paintings, collages, essays, illustrations, or film stills. These contributions are conceived as complements that enrich the musical context and foster interdisciplinary exchange. The magazine has been published regularly from Lucerne since 2022 and is released in connection with an event at Südpol. These release evenings are an integral part of the concept: visitors can experience the featured bands live, view artworks, and hold the magazine in their hands. This creates a platform that extends beyond the printed pages and sets music in motion. The main goal of High on the Sound is to increase the visibility of local music creators and to build connections between the diverse musical landscapes of Switzerland — German-speaking Switzerland, Romandy, and Ticino — in order to establish an interregional music scene that has so far existed only sporadically. With this clear focus on visibility, support for emerging artists, and networking, High on the Sound has quickly established itself within the music scene of Lucerne and Switzerland. Since 2022, nine issues have already been successfully produced and published.
Production of the 10th issue
