This is what it's all about.
We, Laetitia Khiara and Mara Meier, are two young artists from Neuchâtel and Zurich who met at ECAL school of Art and Design in Lausanne and started our collaboration. In addition to this project, we have a musical duo called eggs and tiaras. At the request of the municipality of Chavannes and specifically the collective «Sauvons Chavannes», we designed this work of art together and still need financial support for its implementation. The collective «Sauvons Chavannes» was founded in response to a project to expand a motorway that divides Chavannes in two. At the initiative of this collective, we proposed to combine our two art practices in order to design a form for public space. Laetitia feels at home in performance art, Mara likes to work with installations and sculptures. In the course of our conversations, we decided to focus on our common interest in language. With this sculpture we explore the potential and flexibility of language, the limits of the multiple senses and their spelling.
The final form of this poem, whose letters will be arranged in a circle, will form a fence in the public space. Thus, for a period of one year, the grass will be able to grow inside of it.
More art in Chavannes!
We would be really thankful to have the opportunity to contribute to the cultural development of Chavannes. Moreover, it would not only provide visibility for us as artists, but also for the collective «Sauvons Chavannes» and their ecological and social ideals, which we consider worthy of support.
This is what we need backing for.
We have the sculpture done by an experienced blacksmith in Chexbres. We need money both for material costs, but above all for the fair wage of the craftswoman. She spends several days heating the metal rods and shaping them into letters.
