The Project

Between fiction and documentary, this short film uses casting and rehearsal as a space to explore intimacy, projection, and the construction of a father figure.

The film invites actors to embody the role of the directors absent father through staged encounters that move between performance and genuine emotional connection. As rehearsals unfold, the process becomes less about searching for the real father, and more about what can emerge through the act of rehearsing intimacy itself.

Through casting, roleplay, and constructed situations, the work reflects on how care, tenderness, and emotional attachment can develop even within artificial frameworks. The film also exposes the mechanisms of cinema, allowing the actors, the process, and the uncertainty of performance to become part of the narrative itself.

This film is my graduation project from MA in Photography at ECAL. ©ECAL, 2026.

Why

This short film creates a space where fatherhood can be imagined and temporarily played out between strangers.

By inviting actors to step into an intimate and deeply personal role, the film follows the awkwardness, care, projection, and closeness that can appear within a constructed situation. Intimacy begins to emerge through performance, while the line between acting and genuine connection slowly starts to dissolve.

What your support means

This film was made possible by a small crew committed to bringing this project to life. Entirely independently funded and produced, it has already been shot and is now entering post-production where the story continues to take shape through editing, sound design, and color grading. Here your support becomes essential.

Every contribution will go directly toward completing the film: paying our editor, sound designer, and colorist, compensating the crew members who gave their time and talent to the project, and covering festival submissions so the film can reach its audience.

Independent filmmaking is an act of faith. If this project resonates with you, this is your chance to become part of it. Any contribution, no matter the amount, will make a real difference.

Thank you!
