RIO 2022 - International Oldtimers Meeting

Dear friends, dear enthusiasts,

After three magnificent editions in 2014, 2016 and 2018, the committee of the APPA - Association pour la Promotion du Patrimoine Aéronautique, is pleased to announce the next Rencontres Internationales d’Oldtimers in their 2022 edition.

The concept remains unchanged; to allow the public to admire flying machines and automobiles from another time in an atmosphere conducive to exchanges. A part of history, memory and aeronautical culture. Statically on the ground but also during flying demonstrations, a historical heritage from various horizons will be presented during the event. The Rencontres also invite the public to the exhibitions, stands and activities on the festival square, not forgetting the food and drink.

New in 2022, the RIO will take place in an enchanting setting, between moutains peaks and the lake, on the Aérodrome de la Gruyère! The region and its aerodrome with a grass runway are ideal for the RIO.

Such an event could not be organised without support. Help us to bring back the magic of aeronautical and automotive history.

We look forward to welcoming you on September 3rd and 4th 2022 in Gruyère!

The past brought up to date

The Rencontres Internationales d’Oldtimers was created by the Association l’Aérotique in 1990. Its committee has worked with passion to offer the public and participants twenty unforgettable editions.

The APPA, which took over in 2012, has had the privilege of organising the three previous events. Thousands of spectators have had the opportunity to meet dozens of oldtimers on the ground and in the air.

A guest aircraft is presented to the public at each new edition. It is presented on the official poster, drawn and coloured by an artist for the occasion. For the 2022 edition, we will have the honour of welcoming an original Spitfire, a true flying legend that took part in the Battle of Britain.

Volunteers and elbow grease

The committee and the people working on this weekend do so on a voluntary basis. In order to ensure the sustainability of the organisation, the APPA is dependent on its sponsors and donors.

The operating budget will be around CHF 100,000 for the whole weekend.

Expenses include the compensation of guest aircraft (40,000.-), the rental of equipment and infrastructure (46,000.-), food and drink (9,000.-) and other expenses (5’000.-). The income comes from the sale of admission and parking tickets (~ 52’000.-), catering (~ 28’000.-) and sponsoring (10’000.-).

We are therefore short of 10’000.- to finance the event. We need your help to complete this budget and allow this magical event to take place once again!
