The project

«One Last Night» is a short film that follows 18-year-old Braden and 13-year-old Cyler, two brothers confronted with their mother’s alcoholism. On the eve of Braden’s departure for college, the two brothers share one last night across Los Angeles, blending camaraderie, tension, and discovery.

This film sensitively explores the impact of addiction on family dynamics, as well as the resilience and strength of sibling bonds.

A result of a unique co-production between Switzerland and the United States, the project represents an exceptional opportunity for Michael Guillod as a director.

Supported by institutions such as the Federal Office of Culture and Cinéforom, «One Last Night» is the most ambitious project Michael has undertaken to date.

THE DISTINCTIVE CHARACTER OF OUR SHORT FILM

Where many films focus on the person directly affected by addiction, we choose to shine a light on the indirect victims. From this complex trio – mother and sons – a strong bond will develop between the two brothers, immersed in their family turmoil.

By focusing all our attention on this last night shared by the two brothers, we will explore intimate and intense moments that shape their camaraderie, offering new perspectives on the resilience needed to overcome life’s challenges.

This project is also distinguished by the collaboration between Cornland Studio (Geneva) and Artak Pictures (Los Angeles), supported by industry professionals such as producer Jean-Marie Gindraux, director of photography Pietro Zurcher, and co-producers Floriane Andersen and Yessi Sanchez. This invaluable experience will help us familiarize ourselves with a different production system, enrich our creative vision, and open our perspectives internationally.

All post-production work will then be carried out in Switzerland, in a familiar environment.

WHY IS IT ESSENTIAL TO TELL THIS STORY TODAY?

As mental health and addiction issues gain visibility, it has become crucial to offer stories that address these challenges with nuance, without stigmatizing those who suffer from them, while also considering the impact on the people living alongside those struggling with addiction.

One Last Night fully engages with this issue by highlighting the strength and hope that can emerge from adversity.

With your support, we will be able to bring this powerful and relevant film to a global audience, offering a cinematic experience that resonates deeply, fosters empathy, and sparks essential conversations about survival, connection, and the power of human bonds.

WHY SUPPORT US?

Thanks to the support of prestigious institutions and grants in Switzerland and the United States, the production of the film is nearly secured.

However, we still need at least 7,000 CHF to cover essential steps:

  • Rehearsals: Working with the actors and preparing the scenes.
    (3,000 CHF)
  • Location scouting and set design: Finding suitable locations and creating authentic sets.
    (3,000 CHF)
  • Safety and permits: Ensuring a safe and compliant shooting process.
    (1,000 CHF)

By supporting One Last Night, you contribute to the creation of a powerful film, amplify a message of hope, and encourage discussions on essential topics.

Additionally, if we exceed our funding goal, we will be able to cover the following:

  • Enriching the film’s soundtrack with a Swiss artist.
  • Creating a poster with a Swiss graphic designer.
  • Covering festival submission fees.
  • Expanding our educational outreach efforts.

Finally, we plan to donate 15% of the funds raised to a local community, active in independent cinema, and affected by recent wildfires.

Your support can make all the difference.
