This is what it's all about
Paul, a young man haunted by recurring nightmares, wanders each night through an endless building, desperately searching for «the right door.» The corridors repeat themselves, his body is covered in red spots, and his strength is failing him. In reality, he lives with his mother, Annabelle, and his brother, Leo, who try to support him in the face of his condition and his difficulties finding a job. Paul meticulously records his dreams in notebooks, the boundary between sleep and wakefulness gradually blurring. One day, he receives a summons for an interview. Determined to stay awake, he strives by all means not to fall asleep so as not to miss his opportunity. Between exhaustion, a slowed-down life, and the clumsy support of his family, he tries to fight against his own inner workings.
What makes my project special
«R.E.M.» is about growing up in our world today. It portrays a lost youth, a transition to adulthood that is increasingly delayed, as they try to fulfill past expectations. The protagonist finds himself unable to make choices about his future while heeding the advice of everyone around him—a situation unfortunately experienced by a large portion of today’s youth and subsequent generations.
This film has the potential to be expanded into a longer format to further explore the themes of coming of age and the aesthetics of nightmares. It would allow for a deeper exploration of the characters and the narrative, moving beyond simply skimming the surface of youth trying to find their place in our society. This is a universal theme that is becoming increasingly central for future generations.
This project is the culmination of three years of reflection, research, and practical experience in short filmmaking at the SAE Institute in Geneva.
A first short film which aims to be shown at festivals and to be seen, both to showcase the results of a year’s work and to successfully complete a film project from writing to distribution.
This is what I need backing for.
This project is a student film, meaning it’s self-funded. That’s why your support means so much, no matter how small. So far, I’ve been able to cover the costs associated with preparation and filming. This crowdfunding campaign is to finance post-production and ensure the film’s future.
The funds raised through this crowdfunding campaign will also cover the costs of renting technical equipment, filming locations, purchasing props and costumes, as well as catering during filming and expenses for crew members.
Regarding post-production, which includes editing the footage, sound editing, mixing, color grading, and creating the credits, I hope to bring in professionals to achieve a higher quality. Sound editing is crucial for this project, as it will immerse the viewer in a dreamlike and oppressive world.
