A unique recording project – the rediscovery of a great Armenian Romantic composer

This project is dedicated to the complete recording of the piano works by the Armenian composer Stephan Elmas (1862–1937). Elmas was a contemporary of Chopin, Liszt, and Saint-Saëns, and uniquely created universal romantic nusic. Despite his significance, his music is almost forgotten today and has never been recorded in its entirety until now.

What makes this music so special: The works of Elmas move between lyrical intimacy and virtuoso expressiveness. One hears influences of the great Romantics – and at the same time, something that cannot be classified: melancholic colors, unexpected harmonic twists, and a deeply rooted cultural identity. It is precisely this mixture that makes his music so unique – and so relevant for today’s audience.

Stephan Elmas Piano Concerto n.2

My project is special because ...

The music of Elmas is almost forgotten today and has never been fully recorded until now.

This project is more than just a CD production. It is a reclaiming of cultural heritage, a contribution to expanding our concert repertoire, and a personal attempt to make an unjustly forgotten voice heard again.

With this recording, I am pursuing a clear goal: to make this extraordinary music accessible to a wide audience for the first time and to restore Stephan Elmas to the place in music history that he deserves.

This is what I need backing for.

A project of this depth and quality cannot be realized alone.

The funding goes directly into:

  • studio rental and high-level recording conditions
  • collaboration with experienced sound engineers
  • editorial preparation of often hard-to-access sources
  • artistic work and intensive rehearsal time
  • mixing and mastering
  • graphic design
  • pressing and release as well as targeted promotion and distribution of works by the Armenian composer Stephan Elmas (1862–1937).
