«For Love and Death» - The entire life reflected in tango
Tango - that is music, that is dance, that is strong emotion. But above all, tango is one thing: It is a reflection on the entire life. Because tango has always been a way for people to process their beautiful, but also their very painful experiences, to give free rein to their emotions and to find comfort, hope and acceptance.
We, the Fracanapa New Tango Quintet, want to make this power and emotional force of the tango tangible for you in a concert entitled «For Love and Death» and also capture it on CD with a live recording of this concert. You can not only be a supporter of this project, but also actively contribute to it. Because we play music for you and your life.
Why the concert title «For Love and Death»? Because we believe that love and death are the basic poles between that life takes place. There is nothing higher, more invigorating and moving than love - and there is nothing more abysmal and frightening than death and the fear of death. Between these two poles, however, there is the hope that love can overcome death.
Our tangos are about this tension in human life with its many emotional ups and downs. In the concert, rousing piano solos, emotional violin cantilenas and a crisp tango bass will make all facets of tango and life to be heard. Inspired by the vibraphone, our tango sometimes even gets a jazzy touch.
In this concert, which will take place in the beautiful concert hall of the former «Domani» monastery in Venlo, the Netherlands, the most beautiful tangos about love, life, death and hope by Astor Piazzolla, the famous tango master and inventor of the «tango nuevo», will be performed. The wonderful Argentinian bandoneonist Matías González, who carries on Piazzolla’s spirit in his playing, will be coming to Europe especially for this project. Moreover and amongst other compositions, we will also be playing a composition by our pianist Gabriel Núñez, which deals with love and its illusions.
It will therefore be a unique concert whose music will evoke extraordinary emotions and present life with all its ups and downs to the listeners. The CD, which will be created from the live recording of the concert, can thus become an artistic jewel and a special gift to friends and family, as well as a small escape from everyday life for yourself, providing musical comfort and joy.
Ingo Schmidt-Lucas, multi-award-winning recording producer and engineer, has, among others, received several ECHO Klassik Awards, prizes from the German Record Critics Association and was nominated for a GRAMMY Award. He will record the concert as a live production and release it under his label Cybele Records.

Feelings of life - reflected in tango music
The emotions of Argentine tango music are the most primal of the human soul. Love and death, far away and yet so close, are the feelings that make each of us despair, but also the most grateful, the ones that make us sad, but also the happiest. In the project «For Love and Death» («Auf Liebe und Tod»), we combine this carousel of life with tango nuevo and present this music at eye level with classical chamber music.
Famous tangos by Astor Piazzolla convey emotions such as loneliness, death and resurrection, set a romance of the devil to music or deal with murders committed by the mafia.
In the trilogy «Epopeya de la liberación de una mujer» by our pianist Gabriel Núñez, a woman is seduced by the «abrazo», the «tango embrace». She is trapped in an illusion, fights and frees herself.
We will experience all these feelings in the tangos we have selected for the concert and on the CD.

We need your help for:
- CD production: the CD release including recording, editing, mixing, pressing and GEMA costs a mid four-digit euro amount
- Rental of a grand piano: the quality of the grand piano is of great importance for the CD recording - we record with a Steinway B, which has to be rented, transported and tuned
- Travel expenses: Fracanapa New Tango Quintet is an international ensemble, there are therefore considerable travel costs and incidental travel expenses (hotel costs)
- Marketing costs: advertising, ticket and CD sales activities are very time-consuming and expensive
- Hall rental: The hall in the «Domani» monastery in Venlo has to be rented, including catering
- Various honoraria: Project managers, event technicians and musicians also have to finance their expenses - which is why a number of honoraria are incurred during the course of the project
