When and what

This summer, in a gallery in the middle of Minsk, in a project that moves between painting and performance, I will create an installation. The installation intends to commemorate the gay victims of Nazi persecution and embrace them in the collective memory of the Holocaust.

At the same time the whole project comes to awaken one’s awareness of the topics of tolerance and human rights.

How?

The core of the installation will be two sets of paintings;

  • The first: two large scenic drawings of groups of men and woman of different ages, these works will be a reconstruction of a childhood memory of photographs from the holocaust
  • The second: reflects the title of the project «Pink Mark». It will be two sets of 4-6 paintings of men and women portrayed nude.

In order to underline the message of the installation, visitors to the show will be encouraged to mark the images of the people they think are queer (women or men) with a pink triangle - the same sign that the Nazis marked Gays with in their death camps.

As with all of my projects, the works will be painted with live models in the gallery, with the works in progress partly open to the public.

With whom?

This project was supported from the beginning by Gay Belarus and ToBeQueer, two Human Rights organizations that work in Minsk. They will also do the organizational work on the ground. During the exhibition they will facilitate lectures and workshop on the topics of tolerance and human rights in the same space.

Need money?

Yes – Our goal is to generate a total of CHF/EUR 16’000 for the project. This would cover rents, materials, framing and salaries. If fully funded, we intend to make a film about the project.

More Info?

I answered some questions of members of GayBelarus and ToBeQueer to the project and my motivations behind it.
