What is Via Bilingua?
Via Bilingua is a film about the Swiss French/German language border and the estabilshment of a new hiking trail which follows the route of the Röstigraben. We will also The film is a multi-lingual adventure which follows the journey of Swiss musical duo Les Chrichri and a their English godson Xavie. The intrepid trio endeavour to hike the entire trail from the Basel area to Zermatt, whilst indulging in traditional Röstigraben culinary fayre, meeting with and interviewing the region’s diverse inhabitants and entertaining locals with traditional and original musical numbers on the way whilst also collaborating with local musicians. Our intension is for the film to be shown at film festivals and eventually to be available on Netflix.
Our Mission - To raise awareness of the existence and legacy of the Röstigraben language border through film and music and establish the Via Bilingua hiking trail.
Our Vision - To showcase the heritage and history of the Röstigraben phenomenon through related activities, opportunities and Swiss products available or produced in the surrounding cantons. The film will serve as a springboard for learning and development projects throughout Switzerland and the wider world.
Why help us?
This dividing line of the Rostigraben is known as a barrier. It has often physically, spiritually, politically and emotionally divided the Swiss people. Whilst recognising this fact, our project aims to unite people through music, hiking, food and laughter whilst paying homage to the culture and heritage of the area as well as recognising the importance of this region in the development and advancement of products, technology and sustainability.
