What place does Afro music have in Switzerland?
Did you know that Afro music in Switzerland faces certain prejudices? Here are some examples:
- The range of music on offer in Switzerland is extremely diverse, but Afro music is often relegated to a few small stages or even non-existent.
- Afro music is not yet promoted in a big way on big stages or in the media.
- Often when we see a poster for an Afro music concert or festival, we think that it is only for Africans, whereas for the same kind of poster for a Latino music festival, we imagine a night out that moves an audience of all origins.
Together, I would like us to change things because Switzerland is known for its tradition of openness and the mix of cultures it embodies.
In 2015, I created MKC EVENTS to help improve this situation by organising Afro music events with a strong focus on organisation, communication and satisfaction of the audience, artists and partners.
Let's write the history of Afro music in Switzerland together!
My name is Mario MOMO. I am Swiss of Cameroonian origin and I studied in Switzerland. With my double culture, my first objective is to bring happiness to the people who participate in my cultural events.
I would like that together we write the history of Afro music in Switzerland with the organization of the third edition of the ZIMIX Festival which will take place on Saturday, June 24, 2023 at the Arena of Geneva and at the Palladium during the weekend of the celebration of the music festival in Geneva🏾.
If you are a person :
- sensitive to issues of cultural diversity
- sensitive to the economic impact of the Afro community
- shares the values of integration, respect and tolerance that Switzerland holds dear
- who likes Afro music or wishes to (re)discover this musical genre So your involvement in this organisation and your participation will guarantee the success of this edition 💚.
In return, I offer you several advantages related to the organization such as the possibility to :
- choose your artists,
- spend a privileged VIP moment with an artist,
- have a guided tour of the backstage of the event,
- receive one or more VIP invitation tickets,
- have privileged access, better seats and free drinks,
- be a patron of the Festival,
- have an exchange with the director after the festival
- join the Friends of the Festival club to benefit from other advantages throughout the year,
- have several other advantages presented in the different packs 🥳🤝🏽.
Your contribution will guarantee the necessary sums for the signing of contracts for the other artists in the programme. Indeed, it is important to know that labels require a deposit of 40 to 60% for the hiring of major artists; this represents sums that are difficult to guarantee for a small structure like ours.
The ZIMIX Festival is a music festival that celebrates our cultural diversity around Afro music with its great celebrities. This indoor festival is open to all and to all ages to make Afro music known to as many people as possible. This third edition is very ambitious and even more grandiose with the invitation of artists of African, Caribbean, Cape Verdean and Swiss origin. This will allow us to reach and bring together a wider audience and different generations sensitive to various musical genres.
To mark our ecological footprint, we encourage travel by public transport with the Geneva Arena located 5 minutes’ walk from the Geneva Airport station. TPG buses (Geneva public transport) will shuttle between the Arena and the Palladium hall for an afterparty.
We need your help!
It is with limited means that I managed with MKC EVENTS to realize two successful editions in Renens and Lausanne and to make the ZIMIX Festival known to the public, the media, the partners and the artists. We were able to invite artists such as Fally Ipupa, Diamond Platnumz, Kerozen, Lady Ponce, Afra Kane, Grand Pianoramax and Léon Phal.
For this third edition, we have already booked the Geneva Arena and hired the first group MAGIC SYSTEM. It is a first success and above all a pride to have succeeded in attracting this intergenerational group whose success is no longer to be demonstrated.
Through your participation in this crowdfunding campaign, I would like to raise more than CHF 40,000, which is needed to hire other headliners from the Caribbean, Cape Verde and Africa and to open the ticket office for this edition.
You will have the opportunity to choose among these different headliners for this edition:
- Artists from French-speaking Africa: TAYC, DADJU, SIDIKI DIABATE, YOUSSOUPHA, INNOSS’B
- Artists from English-speaking Africa: YEMI ALADE, TIWA SAVAGE, OMAH LAY, REMA, CKAY
- Artists from Cape Verde: KRIOL KINGS (Nelson Freitas & Dodje), MAYRA ANDRADE, ELIDA ALMEIDA, C4PEDRO, KADY SOULSISTA
- Caribbean artists: JOCELYNE BEROARD from Kassav, MICKAËL GUIRAND (VAYB) from Carimi, RICHARD CAVE (KAÏ) from Carimi, ADMIRAL T, KALASH
The other expenses of the Festival will be covered by the ticket sales and the participation and sponsoring of companies.
Looking forward to welcoming you in this train of the future ☺️ 🤝🏽
Musically yours 🎼 💛!
