Armenian Genocide

Our documentary «Guilty» revolves around Switzerland’s links to the rarely discussed Armenian genocide of 1915, which also gained international attention thanks to the diary entries of the Swiss doctor Jakob Künzler. Turkey, however, still denies the genocide.

The docudrama is set in Berlin in 1921, where we witness the trial for the murder of Talat Pasha - one of the most important political trials of the 20th century. In it, the young Armenian Soghomon Tehlirian awaits his sentence for the murder of the Turkish Grand Vizier. This trial reveals a social and political drama of humanity that would otherwise have been forgotten internationally.

The Armenian Solomon Tehlirian (left) killed the Interior Minister of the Ottoman Empire Talat Pasha. The latter is the main perpetrator of the Armenian genocide.

Why Guilty? For Justice!

The Armenian Genocide of 1915 and 1916 was one of the first systematic genocides of the 20th century. It is estimated that between 300,000 and 1.5 million people fell lost their lifes within those dark hours … and all the more regrettable that this story has hardly been told in film and literature.

What is more, the atrocities took place in the Ottoman Empire, on what is now Turkish territory. Turkey, however, still denies the genocide, unlike for example Switzerland. This deprives millions of Armenians and other people of the chance of justice. We want to change that.
