About me
My name is Dominykas Maurusaitis, I come from the Baltic state of Lithuania. I am a young novice architect and a devoted enthusiast of art and philosophy. In my artistic endeavours I combine black-and-white photography with writings inspired by philosophy.
What I want to do
For my future art projects I want to acquire a graphics tablet – a computer input device that artists use to draw digitally directly on photographs and make unique digital paintings.
I want to create a richly illustrated book of architectural and philosophical visions. The book will have digital paintings and manipulations of photographs that depict fantastical cityscapes and buildings. It will also contain purely conceptual architectural and urban experimentations that illustrate particular philosophical concepts.
How I will reward you
I will send you my personal photography works of the last 5 years that had never been published before. All of the images have a mysterious, enigmatic and contemplative character, and are great for any interior space, whether it is a personal cozy reading corner, or a bohemian coffee house.
I will also send you my photography album of limited edition with more than 50 photographs and 11 distinct philosophy inspired chapters (written in English) connected to the imagery. In my works I explore abandoned and mysterious places, buildings left from soviet era, aging architecture, etc.
By combining photography with philosophical writings, I seek a more enriched visual–philosophical experience. The topics I cover are architecture, form, place, space, emptiness, time and being.
An excerpt from the first chapter ’The Limit’:
’It could be that the powerful impression of the coastline itself raised an uncertain fear and awe to an ancient mindset – the fear of the limit. The limit draws one out of his daily affairs and forces to encounter the unknown that lies beyond the horizon of sight, morality and perception. This is a place where action ceases to make sense and thinking prevails. The limit implies an end which then awakens an appreciation for being, that is to say something that bounds and restricts provokes the feeling of something that is eternal and limitless.’
