Dancing the Political
Solo creation and performance as an act of resilience through dance and movement
Support us in 2 projects that we organize around the political aspect of our dancing bodies!
Project 1: Dancing the Political - workshop With Dancing the Political, we invite professional and amateur dancers in a journey of a solo act creation within a group in which we tap into these stories through dance and performance. The workshop is a process of 8 days. During the workshop, Saed and Héloïse lead professional dancers or amateurs with a close link to oppression in the present or in the past, to create a solo around a social issue that concerns them intimately or with which they are in solidarity. At the end of the process, the participants show their solos to an audience in a public event. We invite a general public but also members of the participants’ family, friends and community that get to witness and process collective pain of their community together.
Project 2: Dancing the Political - festival A program that includes: taster workshop of Dancing the Political; concerts; solos by dancers who participated in the workshop; round table about political art; documentaries screening about immigrants stories.
My project is special because ...
We wish to create more shows and more performances in many places in the world so more members of the community with all their different origins get to emotionally process these feelings together. Feelings shared by the artists and the public allow to heal together as communities and to open ourselves to other cultures.
We feel it is essential to have this kind of sharing space, to meet the needs of certain people from minority cultures or with painful pasts/presents linked to social issues.
The last time we made Dancing the Political in November 2022 - we had around 10 amazing artists that came from many different origins and places and who come from difficult background and carry hard stories and trauma.
Examples of stories and backgrounds :
A queer person from Kurdistan who had issues with the Turkish authorities do a performance about oppression, gender issues while covering herself in Burqa; A dancer from Costa Rica who did a solo about immigration and artists in immigration; An artist whose mother is Iranian who did a solo on women oppression in Iran; And more…
This is what I need backing for.
