What is VERD.cash and why should one support it?

VERD.cash is the fair Swiss payment solution.

Fair for you as a customer, because it’s free and with every payment you direct money into the neighbourhood where you live.

Fair for local businesses, because our fees for non cash payments are lower than most other providers. Sometimes substantially! Small businesses in particular are feeling the effects. That’s why you often see «Cash only» signs or more recently «Cash only or VERD.cash» signs.

But VERD.cash doesn’t just strengthen local businesses. VERD’s profits are given back to people living in Switzerland: half of the profits go into the neighbourhood funds where the people making payments live, the other half into the national Swiss fund.

And just like using cash when you pay with VERD.cash your personal data is not disclosed.

Why donate to our project?

We believe that the transaction fees of around CHF 1.7 billion a year (that’s CHF 1,700 million!) should start flowing back into our local neighborhoods as quickly as possible, instead of going to financial service providers and often abroad.

An app will make VERD.cash accessible to more people. We would like to start the development as soon as possible and launch a first version on the market. Functions such as direct account connection or money transfer between people shall follow in a second step. The quicker we all channel money back into our local neighbourhoods the quicker we can realise other projects, like those already completed in Riggisberg (BE) and Luterbach (SO).

What organisation is behind VERD.cash? And how does money get distributed into your neighbourhood?

VERD.cash is backed by the VERD Purpose cooperative.

We promote principles that people should be able to lead a life which is self-determined, regardless of ones background, situation or limitations – and also is responsible towards the needs of others. Flourishing neighbourhoods also support these principles, which is why we focus on supporting them.

How does it work in practice? We develop and operate alternatives to everyday services. If someone uses a VERD service, half of the profits go into a fund in the neighbourhood where the person lives who used the service, the other half into the national Swiss fund. The national Swiss fund is used to cover our development costs and finance national and regional projects.

The VERD Purpose cooperative members living in a specific neighbourhood decide directly about how they want to use their fund.

Any person resident in Switzerland is entitled to become a member of the VERD Purpose cooperative and purchase shares. One-off costs: 5 CHF per share. www.verd.swiss/purpose#join

The idea of turning the economy on its head so that profit serves the common good was conceived eight years ago. In 2024, the VERD Purpose Cooperative was founded, thereby transferring the preliminary contributions to the Swiss population. A year later, we were able to launch our first service: VERD.cash. Today, we already have over 1,600 cooperative members and money is flowing back into over 100 local communities.
