Visarte (Société Suisse des Artistes Visuels) a remplacé depuis 2001 la SPSAS (Société des Peintres, Sculpteurs et Architectes Suisses) fondée en 1866.
La section Fribourgeoise a été créée en 1899.

Spartanburg Art Museum (SAM) en Caroline du Sud USA est un musée régional dont la renommée s’est considérablement développée durant ces dernières années.
