Who are we?
Grüezi Mitenand, Konnichiwa! We are GINMAKU Japanese Film Festival based in Zurich, Switzerland.
For the upcoming 2026 edition, we are delighted to present a selection of 15 unique Japanese films.
Since our festival’s beginning in 2014, we have been grateful for the support of our audience, crowdfunding supporters, partners, and everyone who has been part of this journey. Arigatou gozaimasu!
«GINMAKU» means «silver screen»—a name that honors the legendary masters and pioneers of Japanese cinema.

What is our goal for GINMAKU 2026?
We aim to bring people together and strengthen friendships through our festival. Our mission is to build a lasting cultural bridge between Switzerland and Japan by sharing authentic stories, contemporary voices, and the rich depth of Japanese cinema with our audience.
Encouraged by the warm support and feedback from last year’s visitors, we are planning to expand the festival to six days this year.
By continuing to organize GINMAKU annually, we hope to create a platform that not only introduces Japanese films to audiences in Zurich, but also supports the Japanese film industry from here in Switzerland.

What do we need your support for?
Your contribution helps to cover film rights, subtitles, screening costs, and operations, as well as shipping costs for the films and flight and accommodation expenses for our guest filmmakers from Japan.
In collaboration with our cinema partners, we humbly strive to discover talent in the Japanese film industry through the festival and to deepen cultural exchange between our two beloved countries, Switzerland and Japan.
Thank you so much for bringing our festival to life! Arigatou gozaimasu! ありがとうございます🌸
With my warmest regards, Mizuki Mazbara
