This is what it's all about
What? The project’s aim is to crowdfund a photovoltaic (PV) plant on the roof of the Sports Hall at the University of St. Gallen. The University buys the green electricity produced. The proceeds flow into the MaCS Development Fund to finance new climate projects.
Why? This project contributes to reducing the university’s carbon footprint. By financing individual solar panels without having to have a suitable roof yourself, you as a climate enthusiast can support the university to reach her net zero climate targets.
Who are we?
We are a group of students in the 2021 cohort of the Managing Climate Solutions Programme at HSG and are burning to apply our knowledge about climate change. Together with you we kickstart the green future of HSG.
This is what we need backing for
Through the community solar approach we aim at raising CHF 35’000 to finance part of the plant. The remaining capital will be provided by another investor. As each solar panel costs around CHF 400, every single contribution brings us a huge step closer to the realisation of the project.
You may ask yourself: if these solar-aficionados already have some backing by an investor, why would crowdfunding make a difference?
There are several reasons for this. First and foremost, crowdfunding creates a solar community of which you can become a part. To honour your great contribution, we will provide you with your personal Solar Community Certificate. In addition, we invite you to an unforgettable Solar Community Event, which is dedicated entirely to you and the other investors.
Our goal is to create a solar movement that helps to accelerate the deployment of solar energy for the University of St. Gallen. Even though the canton has an energy strategy that aims at increasing the share of renewables, no further university roofs are currently on its priority list. In the light of the urgency of the climate crisis the crowdfunding facilitates the development of a project that might otherwise take many years to materialize.
