What it's all about.

Language shapes who we are — and who gets heard. What does it mean to feel a sense of belonging when language both connects and excludes? Between multilingualism, origin, and societal expectations, subtle and often invisible power dynamics emerge: who is understood, who has to adapt — and who is left out?

Our film approaches these questions from both a personal and a collective perspective. Starting from the poem «Ich, die Heimatlosen» by Ani Menua, a cinematic space unfolds in which language, memory, and identity intertwine.

We follow a young woman through everyday moments in the city — haste, noise, and fragments of speech alternate with quiet, intimate scenes. Her journey through the city merges with the lines of the poem and with documentary voices of people from diverse backgrounds, who share their experiences of multilingualism.

Why this project?

Multilingualism is an everyday reality — and yet it is often accompanied by exclusion, uncertainty, and the pressure to adapt. Our film makes these tensions tangible without simplifying them. It creates space for nuance. At a time when questions of identity and belonging are becoming increasingly politicized, we aim to open up a poetic and reflective approach that invites both contemplation and empathy

This is what I need backing for.

Shooting the film is complete — now we are in the process of finishing the film in post-production: editing, sound design, and colour grading. We also aim to present the film at festivals, make it accessible to as many people as possible, and to compensate the artists involved fairly. With your support, you help us bring this project to completion and make the voices and stories it gathers visible. Every contribution moves the film one step forward. Thank you.
