From heaven to hell and back...

The Knut, an expedition sailboat that has been organizing residencies for artists and athletes in the Arctic for ten years, ran aground on the rocks of Greenland in September 2024. Thanks to generous donors, sponsors, and a lot of elbow grease, the boat was refloated and convoyed to Lorient. In one year.

Now there is still a lot of work to be done before we can resume our activities next spring, with you on board!

A legendary sailboat that must be saved

The Knut is a 40-year-old expedition sailboat, indestructible and so heavily modified that in 2020 it became the first electric and solar-powered polar expedition boat. It produces virtually no pollution.

The Knut also represents more than fifty artists who have spent the last decade on incredible voyages amid the icebergs. They are melting, of course, but their role is to document this beauty.

The Knut is also a base camp, or a high-mountain refuge, allowing professional and inspired skiers to ski the snow-covered and incredible slopes of Spitsbergen or Greenland.

The Knut is not just a vehicle. It is what it carries that is precious.

Impossible without your help

In order to sail with you again this spring, there is a lot of work to be done. The interior of the Knut is completely empty. We are going to completely rebuild the insulation, the layout, and the navigation and living equipment.

The keel, which was seriously damaged during the shipwreck, must be removed and rebuilt.

The electric motor, which spent ten days underwater, must be repaired or replaced, as must the battery bank that powers it.

Your help is essential to us. And the rewards on offer are really cool! We are even creating a line of clothing and accessories for the occasion…
