Synopsis

The children of Inle Lake dream that one day their region and country will finally get rid of all plastic waste. In order to motivate and help them, a mad project was conceived, namely that of harvesting more than 17’000 plastic bottles filled with plastic waste in order to build a new school and library, with the participation of children, students and adults from surrounding villages. Thanks to the help of the Swiss Scintillae Foundation, which funded this project and to the Trash Hero association’s awareness campaign, the population became aware in a concrete way of the need to recycle rather than to abandon plastic waste in nature. This film illustrates how this fabulous challenge was met and a dream became reality. It aptly illustrates the urgency of taking action to preserve our environment, both in the Inle Lake area and around the world.

A word from the producer

As a documentary filmmaker, I was deeply touched by the troubling situation in Myanmar’s Inle Lake region today. This lush country is known for its extraordinary ecosystem and its famous floating gardens. A site of exceptional beauty that one comes to visit from around the world, but which today is facing serious environmental problems. This is a severe pollution through plastic waste that proliferates and gradually invades the entire territory. In these famous floating gardens, pesticides and fertilizers are being increasingly used, which in turn constitutes an ecological threat already at work. This film illustrates the urgency of the situation but also reveals concrete and constructive solutions to remedy it. Building a school from plastic waste is already an action full of promise, awareness and knowledge I am therefore focused on filming this amazing story through the eyes and comments of young children, students of this region, because they are most concerned, being the adults of tomorrow. Their original point of view and their testimonies are borrowed from a real pedagogical force and, beyond that, from a real hope. I hope that my film can contribute to everyone’s efforts to eradicate plastic and pesticides from our environment. Through its distribution, I also hope to reach a very wide audience and thus participate in the preservation of our planet which is our most precious asset.

This is what I need backing for.
