Help Us Build a Brighter Future Through Sport in Senegal!

In Senegal, access to quality sports facilities is limited to those who have money. Imagine children like Awa dreaming of playing basketball with proper equipment. Now, teenagers like Malik play football barefoot on uneven surfaces with sharp stones, with sometimes broken glass mixed in. Children often hurt themselves because of these poor playing conditions. These youngsters require safe, well-maintained grounds to develop their talents, and to dream of a bright future. Our goal is to address these needs by providing diverse sports facilities tailored to the communities’ needs.

Our pilot project is based in Rufisque, outside Senegal’s capital Dakar. This is where we are currently negotiating to have access to develop a 4,000m² plot near the beach into a proper sports facility. We’re partnering with the Handball Federation of Senegal (Fédération Sénégalaise de Handball) and Journeyman International—a group of dedicated volunteer architects. Together, we aim to build a sport facility that doubles up as a community hub. It will foster social connections, promote sustainability and create vocational opportunities in green energy and sports management.

We completed a pre-feasibility study in May 2024, and now we need your help to fund the next crucial phase: the full feasibility study, scheduled from 18 October to 16 November 2024. We’ve already covered the costs of our flights between Geneva and Dakar, and half of our accommodation expenses, but we need assistance to finalise the feasibility study.

Help us turn this vision into reality. Your contribution will directly impact children like Awa, and Malik by providing them with safe and sustainable sports facilities that foster health, personal growth, and community development. I’m deeply passionate about the power of sport to help people have better lives.

Our project is special because it combines inclusive sports facilities with access to green energy, clean water, and sustainable practices. We aim to empower the local community, promoting social cohesion and well-being while ensuring environmental sustainability. This holistic approach makes Sport Grounds 4 Future a catalyst for positive change in Rufisque, with potential for replication across Africa. Implementing this project will not only enhance access to sports but also provide essential resources and foster long-term, sustainable development for future generations.
