Capturing the Senses - An Interdisciplinary Summer School
For the second edition of the summer school «Capturing the Senses». From July 21-27 2025, we will have the opportunity to spend a week exploring the following questions:
«How can we stay in touch with our environment without being overwhelmed by it? How can the noise of the city be used as a source of creative inspiration? How do we perceive our surroundings when we specifically sharpen our senses? How can we understand and implement our observations in an interdisciplinary context?».
To this end, we invite students from the fields of design, architecture and fine arts to work together in interdisciplinary groups. Over the course of a week, we will explore our perceptions. We will distance ourselves from everyday habits and the digital world and translate our observations of the urban environment of Vilnius into material objects. Inputs from art, design, architecture and psychology will provide a theoretical framework.
This year’s Summer School «Capturing the Senses» will take place at the cultural center SODAS 2123 in Vilnius, Lithuania. In order to promote transnational exchange, students and tutors from Switzerland and Lithuania will participate. The results of the week will be documented, exhibited in SODAS 2123 and published on the website «Capturing the Senses».
Capturing the Senses - Exploring and Translating Vilnius
As creative professionals in a hectic environment, we are exposed to a multitude of stimuli every day. Our brains are often overstimulated as a result, making it difficult to filter information and maintain focus. This constant sensory overload poses a major challenge for creative work: How can we stay in touch with our environment without being overwhelmed by it?
Additionally, we often find ourselves navigating within our own bubbles. The summer school aims to broaden perspectives by engaging with different views from various design fields and cultural backgrounds. We strongly believe that by listening to and learning from each other, we can contribute to a more wholesome future.
Workspace, Materials & more
With the money we will be able to fund the project and offer the students an affordable summer school. We will be able to pay the travel expenses for the tutors, the rent of the workshops, material for the workshops and a small compensation for the tutors.
