What is it about?
The Lucerne Academy for Human Rights Implementation is a multifaceted human rights law program based at the University of Lucerne, Switzerland. The Lucerne Academy develops human rights expertise in law students through coursework, research and a moot court exercise.
Over the course of three weeks, students take classes focused exclusively on human rights law, author a hypothetical appellate brief and participate in a moot court competition. Participants learn the theoretical and trial skills necessary to prepare for a career in defending human rights either academically or in the field. The Academy includes lunchtime seminars, excursions to the United Nations in Geneva and the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg. The Best Overall Participant receives an internship with a human rights organization.
Why do we need your support?
Since the Lucerne Academy is a human rights program, we would like to enable students who do not have the necessary financial resources to participate in this extraordinary human rights law program. After the successful completion of the Lucerne Academy foreign law students are able to contribute to the implementation of human rights through research and advocacy in their home countries. With your support we can promote human rights research around the world!
Scientific Contribution
In groups of 3 to 4 people, students from different countries and backgrounds solve current human rights issues related to the main topic «Business and Human Rights». This comparative exchange allows students from across the globe to work together and develope creative research. Some of our student’s articles are published on a blog, in legal journals and in local newspapers thus contributing to the promotion of human rights through research.
What do we need to cover?
We are seeking funding to enable students to learn more about human rights in a safe and inspiring environment. We are looking for two 100% scholarships for students from Africa and South America. One scholarship entails:
- Travel Expenses
- Housing in a student dorm
- Meals
- Fees
- Excursions to Strasbourg and Geneva
- Bus pass Lucerne
- Small daily allowance
