Comparison of two acupuncture methods against chronic back pain

In March 2022, the Swiss University Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine (SWISS TCM UNI) was recognized by the Swiss Accreditation Council. We are proud to say that SWISS TCM UNI is the first TCM University in Switzerland and even in Europe!
As usual at a university institute, we want to promote and challenge research, especially in the field of TCM! We would like to research the effectiveness of TCM in different disease patterns, so that TCM can be better interpreted and embedded in conventional medicine.

Our big goal is to reduce the suffering of patients faster and sustainably, while minimizing health care costs.

To achieve this goal, we have started a first clinical trial in patients with chronic back pain. We are comparing the efficacy of 2 acupuncture methods against the chronic pain of these patients. An acupuncture method developed in Switzerland will be compared to the standard acupuncture (from the textbook in China). If the result prove the further developed method works better, then this method could be recommended and widely used in Switzerland.

For this we need your support

Although the funding of TCM research in Switzerland is difficult, the project could be started in January and funded for the year 2023! So that the study can be actively pursued in 2024, we hope for your support! We need the financial help to finance a doctor trained in conventional medicine (low workload). This physician accompanies the patients through the study and is of greatest importance for health safety.

An important side effect is the close cooperation between TCM and conventional medicine. We believe that only cooperation leads to the best outcomes. Therefore, it is all the more important for us to secure the funding of a conventional doctor at SWISS TCM UNI for the long term. All the financial support from wemakeit will be used for this purpose.

We hope to find supporters here for TCM research in Switzerland!

What is special about our project

TCM research at SWISS TCM UNI is special because we combine the holistic approach of TCM with traditional medical knowledge and scientific methods. Our research and research results will form a bridge between these fields. We believe in scientific integrity and objectivity. Thus, we are convinced that positive as well as negative research results will help medicine and patients in the short or long term.
