Being a musician is not just a job; it’s a calling. The hard work that goes into preparing for a concert is not always recognised by the broader public. This documentary shows the behind-the-scenes of the life of musicians. «My intention is to reveal the true story of what it takes to build a career in classical music. The documentary features the next generation of upcoming musicians, speaking openly about the challenges they face. I will also speak with renowned musicians about what it means to be a musician and to dedicate your whole life to music, and how the world of classical music has evolved throughout the years.» Noa Kleisen

Showing the behind the scenes, the current challenges of musicians

The Covid period was a huge moment of questioning for me, without a concert, without connection with other musicians, with the public. It then came to me the idea of creating a Festival that would connect the new generation of musicians, and offer the public an experience of intimate concerts with real meaning in the program. It is a question of discovering unknown, poorly known works, interpreted by the best musicians of the new generation, with an undeniable French accent. «Joie de Vivre» Festival was born. The place represents a lot, and the chance to have Klimt Villa, which is normally inaccessible, gives weight to this approach and makes it possible to create a bridge between French-tinged programming and Viennese historical life.

From then on, the additional step was to film, to document a «behind the scenes». How do you set up a festival? Who are these musicians? What are their new challenges?

It’s a long-term job, over two years, across Europe, culminating in the 2023 Joie de Vivre Festival. It’s an opportunity to film the rehearsals, interview these musicians, convey this very special atmosphere.

The second stage will consist of an interview session with personalities from the musical world in order to collect their testimonies on their journey and their view of the evolution of musical life.

A personal project, but a team work

Producing a documentary is a new challenge for me. It’s about finding someone to lead the technical side. I found in Anna Patritsyia the perfect collaborator, both in the work and in the common vision of the desired images.

The necessary funds are important, between the sound quality required, the video equipment (stabilizer, several cameras), the staff, the trips in Europe for 4-5 people sometimes… All this has a significant impact.

This represents an important personal investment for me, the desired quality being that desired by the televisions channels. I am in discussion with several distributors in order to distribute this documentary thereafter. But today, I’m still missing part of the budget and that’s why I’m setting up this crowdfunding.
