This is what it's all about.

The ballet «The Origin of Species» for choir, instrumental ensemble and vocal soloists, based on the book «On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favored Races in the Struggle of Life» by Charles Darwin, contrasts creationism and the theory of evolution. The audience will enjoy a dramatic and multi-faceted dance theater over approximately 45 minutes (5 acts), created by the 22-year-old composer Jeannine Läuffer and the choreographer Luca Signoretti. An important component of the work is the social behavior of humans and animals.

Students and alumni of the Zurich University of the Arts, Lucerne School of Music and Tanzwerk101, and the Vokalensemble Cantemus will participate in this unique project. The instrumental ensemble will be led by the young conductor Grégoire May, the choir has rehearsed with Judith Flury.

Our project is special because ...

The 45-minute work is unique in the Swiss music scene. It is not only exceptionally long for a dance theater, it further consists of a unique cast:

Jeannine Läuffer, composer, organizational and artistic director

Luca Signoretti, choreography / Markus Güdel, light design

Grégoire May, conductor / Judith Flury, choir director

Music and dance ensemble: students and alumni of the Zurich University of the Arts, Lucerne School of Music and Tanzwerk101 (flute, piccolo, clarinet in B, bass clarinet, horn, harp, accordion, piano, violin, cello, percussion and 9 dancers)

Vokalensemble Cantemus

Anna Gitschthaler, soprano solo / Annika Langenbach, mezzo-soprano solo

The young composer and the choreographer Luca Signoretti demonstrate the significance and importance of Darwin’s work, which is still relevant to society. Outstanding music and dance ensembles will support them.

The music ensemble has already recorded the work in the studio of the Zurich University of the Arts.

This is what we need backing for.

The minimum budget of the project is 30’000 CHF. We have already covered 26’000 CHF through sponsors and private patrons. So we only need 4000 CHF! Help us reach that amount.

We will use the money for: Fees of the staff, hall rental, expenses (rent of the instruments, piano tuning), advertising expenses (advertisements, posters, flyers), the stage design and other equipment (for example dance carpet, lighting design)

We thank all of you in advance who will help us with your donations. With every donation you receive a reward!
