Therese is going to be my Masters Graduation Short Film

It is going to be approximately 15 to 20 minutes long and will be shot in August, on location in Brazil, close to São Paulo. It is based on a real story, extracted from Diaries and travel journals of Therese and Maximilian and will be performed by 3 Bavarian and 1 Brazilian Actor. The language will be part German part Portuguese, considering the real Therese was fluent in Portuguese.

It is 1888 and Princess Therese of Bavarian, daughter of the ruling Prince Regent Luitpold of Bavaria, undertakes a four month long expedition to Brazil, to collect plants, animals and insects for her studies. She travels undercover and is accompanied by General Maximilian Freiherr Von Speidel and Baroness Franziska Von Lerchenfeld. They are on the last leg of their journey to Rio de Janeiro, where there are expected to arrive within 2 days, for a meeting with the Emperor Dom Pedro the second. But when the scheduled train does not arrive, they hire a local guide, José Augusto to bring them through the jungle back to their ship, when they face dangerous wild animals, heavy tropical rain and an unexpected sickness, which leads to sudden change of plans.

My project is special because it has a message even though it is a period drama, the themes of female empowerment and class are as present as they could get.

What interests me most about her personality is her strength in character and her curiosity. The development and independence of this woman, at a time when it was not possible for a princess to go across the street in Munich by herself, is fascinating to me. At a time when women were totally dependent on men, she broke all the rules. Her self-confidence makes of her an important role model for the modern woman.

This is what I need backing for.

As this is going to be my Masters graduation Film at Zurich University of the Arts, we do get a good budget for the Production of the Film, which will cover the production side of the film. However, as we are bringing the 3 Bavarian actors and part of the crew to Brazil, we also need to pay for their flights, as well as part of the postproduction of this film. This is why we need your help. We will be grateful for a part of this contribution.
