We’re creating a home for social movements, political collectives, neighbors, artists and community groups in and around Bern. It’s a place to connect, learn from one another, and address diverse issues under one roof.
Radio RaBe has signed a 10-year lease at Sulgenrain 28 and is subletting 120m² to us. We — that is, Haus der Bewegungen, Living Room, Klimastreik Bern, Wir alle sind Bern, Klima-Allianz, and act now! — want to turn this space into a shared home by and for social movements, political collectives, neighbors, artists, and associations.
With movable walls, the space will remain flexible and usable for meetings, networking, and recharging. We want to learn from each other, connect across our movements, share resources, act together, and provide mutual support.
Starting in June 2025, we’ll begin building the interior. From July on, the space will come to life.
But to make this happen, we need your support now!

What makes our project special:
More and more free, common spaces are disappearing, the world is rearming, and authoritarian regimes are on the rise. Now more than ever, we need to create a counterbalance — by coming closer together. And in the process, learn what peacebuilding looks like among self-organized groups.
As a living example of sustainable shared use of resources (space, time, money, care) and knowledge, the collective space at Sulgenrain is opening its doors to all who are interested. Sharing the 120 m² doesn’t just significantly lower the costs of rent and electricity for the six groups involved. With a focus on accessible care structures, it’s also meant to become a source of strength and endurance.
We are building bridges between different self-organized groups and institutions (e.g., churches, parliamentary politics) —
to talk, collaborate, and engage in dialogue with and develop empathy for people we might otherwise never meet. Our collective space is a real-life laboratory for the big changes needed to live within our planet’s limits.
Together we can do it! But what do the different groups actually do? You can find the answers here. Photo: karinscheidegger.ch
Living Room is a communal space run by people from different parts of the world and who have made Bern their home, either by choice or force. It offers a space for art, resistance, and connection.
However, the aim is also to bring these voices to a wider audience (beyond the communities that make up Living Room) and to form and strengthen a critical alternative narrative through cultural and political interventions.
Since its launch in 2023, Haus der Bewegungen (HdB) has been trying to organize space, time, money and care for social movements.
We also regularly hold community events and various other activities, outreach to local neighborhoods, and network with politicians, churches, and foundations.
We at Climate Strike are concerned about our future and that of the planet - because decision-makers are failing to take concrete action despite clear scientific facts, we are fighting for a fairer and more sustainable society.
Together with many different people from Bern, we organise demonstrations, strikes, discussions, workshops and creative events to exchange ideas and take collective action.
With over 150 committed organisations, Climate Alliance Switzerland is a coalition that has been growing for 20 years with the aim of making climate a priority in politics and society.
As an impartial and non-profit association, we implement projects and mobilise collective action within our network.
Wir alle sind Bern is committed to a solidary and rebellious city in which all people who live here - regardless of origin or residence status - can participate equally in shaping the city.
We achieve this through a variety of projects such as the promotion of a City Card or a solidarity city map that enables all residents to participate in city life - for all those who are here and those who are yet to come.
At act now! we work together for social change, create spaces for expression, encounters and moments of joy - in the context of the climate catastrophe.
Step by step, act now! has formed a unique movement in Switzerland that drives social change with seriousness and creativity.
In the Sulgenrain collective space, the HdB will take on a coordinating role. It will coordinate everyday life on behalf of the other collectives. All groups meet on an equal footing and have equal rights to have a say.

To turn this into reality, we need your support:
Stage 1 – With CHF 10,000, we’ll start small: covering moving costs, the rental deposit, and installing the kitchen.
Stage 2 – With CHF 30,000, we can carry out the full move for all groups and begin the first stage of interior construction: flexible walls and mobile elements to create a modular, multi-use space, furnishings, and an initial investment in a room-booking system to coordinate the many users.
Stage 3 – With CHF 70,000, we can cover the minimum operating costs for six months, giving us the freedom to focus on what truly matters.
These basic costs include rent and utilities for all groups, as well as existing positions at the HdB association to coordinate shared life in the space and facilitate participatory processes.
