What a tree creates
We are Lukas and Joana and have already experienced a lot together. We have planned, financed and realised projects. We are now parents of two wonderful children. They have strengthened our desire to actively work for a future worth living.
Now our dream of a project that we cultivate ourselves is finally coming true! Three years ago, we started to realise our vision with the help of a training course. During this time, the opportunity arose for Lukas to take over land in an early inheritance. Wow - our dream on his grandfather’s land! This allowed us to really get going. We decided to found a tree nursery as an economic mainstay, because trees create so much.
So the play on words of our company - ’Bäumlischafft GmbH’ - has a true core (schafft means creates and the ending -schaft would be in english -ity)
Bäumli-creates future: A large variety of species leads to more stability and therefore also to better resilience in more extreme conditions. Trees outlast our lifespan by far and are therefore a big step for the future.
Bäumli-schafft Wurzelkraft: Trees create their own microclimate. With their deep roots, they can draw nutrients and water from deeper layers and make it available to other plants. They evaporate water through their leaves, cooling the environment and slowing down the wind and thus prevent dryness. The roots hold the soil and protect against erosion, they retain water and prevent flooding. The leaves and branches provide a lot of biomass, build up the soil, feed animals… This list could go on and on. Isn’t that exactly what the earth needs so urgently?
Bäumli-schafft Landschaft: In our tree nursery you will find a selected range of native and robust woody plants:
- Berries
- wild fruit
- Rarities
- Fruit and nut trees
- Valuable timber / forest plants
Bäumli-schafft Marktwirtschaft: Our target groups are
- Private individuals with their own garden
- Farmers (agroforestry)
- Public institutions and other environmental players
Bäumli-schafft Leidenschaft: Our enthusiasm for life and for nature is the motivation and the driving force. We love learning from nature and spending more time in it.
Another way of agriculture
We are part of the international movement of micro-farms. We live on a small area exclusively from the yields without subsidies. As a regenerative farm, we focus on plant strengthening instead of pest control and on soil building through soil life instead of exploiting the soil.
More specifically, we are working on the following topics:
- Maximising water storage capacity
- Highest level of plant health according to John Kempf
- Variety of soil organisms, balanced fungi-bacteria ratio
- Soil structure
Our methods are:
- Observe, measure and react
- Plant strengthening through compost tea and ferments
- Syntropic agroforestry with a large variety and density of plants
- catch, store and distribute surface water (keyline design)
- Minimised mechanical soil cultivation. Instead, mulching, cover crop, undersown crops and surface rotting.
We are the first tree nursery in Switzerland to cultivate trees in an agroforestry system. (If you want to find out more, watch the YouTube link below).
Budget
You can find the exact overview on our homepage in the business plan. There are three budgets:
- must (we can’t do without it)
- should (enables a better infrastructure and more work-flow)
- could (this is how we want to work in the end)
Invested so far:
- 35,000 invested from our own savings
- 2 years 20% job
- 1 year (2025) 40 % job
Financed so far:
- 20,000 from foundations
We need now:
- 45,000 (must) minimum fixed costs
- 70,000 (should) for a better and more economical infrastructure
- 120,000 (could) for full attention and focus (20 francs per hour for a part-time job and further investment)
Want to see the whole thing on site first? No problem! The open day is on 12 July. You can find more information on the homepage.
Thank you!
