A community space for hands-on experience and ultra-local food production.

The Permaculture Gardens at Popup Dietlimoos is a project to transform a bare and vacant lot into a permaculture paradise. This site offers the people of the Adliswil community the opportunity to learn about gardening and permaculture in a hands-on way with professional support. In the spring of 2021, we began by installing our garden beds, fruit tree guilds and making community connections. Over the course of the first season, we constructed a garden house, built up a worm composting system, held courses and workshops about permaculture, and grew some delicious vegetables!

Sustainability Made Visible

Sustainability is a buzzword these days, and for most of us it is an abstract concept involving energy conservation and initiatives by large corporations. The Permaculture Gardens at Popup Dietlimoos takes these lofty ideals and brings them to ground in a very realistic way. One of the easiest ways for us to make a difference for our health and for the health of our planet, is to change how we eat. Growing your own vegetables, herbs and fruits not only reduces the transport impact of your food, but actively improves the local environment through carbon capture. Green spaces in city centers help to regulate the local climate, and provide sanctuary for native insects and wildlife. Our project is an oasis surrounded by new development. With this comes the chance to reach a large number of people, including children from 3 different schools, ranging in age from 3-18.

Support us in our next phase!

After a wonderfully sucessful first season, we are now ready to move on to the next phase of our project. With your support, we will be installing a dome greenhouse for the production of our seedlings, a water catchment system and grey water clarification system for sustainable water usage, improvement for our keyhole garden beds, a natural playground for the children in the community and improvements to our garden house. All of the products and money raised by our garden work is invested directly back into the community, benefitting the children in the local schools as well as the residents of the Adliswil community.
