Wendy the host mom, friend and hostess
Hello everyone
There is one thing that is very important to me. I hope you will take a moment to read this… and NO, this is not an ad or a rip off!!!
I started my trip around the world in 2019 in Guatemala. Ever since I was a teenager I dreamed of traveling & getting to know the world and cultures. I did it at the age of 31 after I had a bad accident in 2018 and didn’t want to postpone this trip until «later».
Without a plan or idea and relatively spontaneously, I went to Guatemala and started my trip. I decided to stay with a host family in order to learn as much Spanish as I couldand also about the culture.
I learned some Spanish, but I never thought that I would find a second home in Antigua too.
Wendy and her family welcomed me into their home from the start as if I were a member of their family. I also met other students and travellers at her home who had the same experiences. Wendy and her family have opened their doors & hearts and welcomed all travelers as part of their family (which is not to be taken for granted).
I still like to think back to that time. I missed my second home and family so much that I returned there again in 2022 and visited them. It was like I had never been away.
Wendy takes care of all her guests with a lot of love and passion. I think her calling is to be a host mother and hostess.
She does everything from and in her own home. Unfortunately, the possibilities are therefore also limited.
Now there is an opportunity for her to start her own «business» and set up an official hostel, which is not often the case there. However, she lacks the financial means to do so.
The house is 75,000 quetzals, which currently corresponds to about 8711 Swiss francs. 20,000 quetzals have been paid as deposit. So 55,000 quetzal are still open.
I received so much during my time there and until this day I still feel a deep connection to Wendy, the family there and Antigua. I wish to have this experience for other travelers and students as well as for Wendy, so I would like to ask for the support of this project…
The house is available to take over and do a hostel and there are many interested parties. Therefore the deadline is June 26, 2023 to collect the money.
My project is special because ...
As a resident of Guatemala with an average income, it is difficult to realize such a project and the possibilities are extremely low because of the lack of financial resources. The hostel would be a long-awaited dream for Wendy and her family and the start of financial independence. In addition, this place should be created for travelers & students, among others, who would like to have a positive and authentic cultural as well as warm family experience. Maybe even a second home.
This is what I need backing for.
Financial help for Wendy to start her business. Total 75’000 quetzals = CHF 8711.-.
I have already paid 20,000 quetzals as a deposit. So 55,000 Quetzals are still open.
Wendy and her family (Francisco, Adriano and Carlo) should be supported with the crowdfunding of CHF 6100.00 so that they can definitely take over the house and buy the furniture (additional beds for guests) and equipment (such as cups, plates, etc.).
