This is what it's all about.

Starting in August, I’m returning to Cambodia for a year of volunteer work at Saek Thmey School, where I previously taught French for four months. This time again, I’ll be living directly at the school to fully commit to an ambitious educational project that I’m presenting to you below…

Every Sunday, the students ride their donated bicycles with a volunteer to the Angkor temples for a history class about their Khmer culture. It’s a great opportunity to learn new vocabulary, stay active, and train for their likely future careers in tourism (French-speaking tuk-tuk driver, tour guide, etc.).

My project is special because ...

Although the Siem Reap region is well known for tourism thanks to the Angkor temples, many rural populations still live in poverty. The initial aim of the NGO was to train French-speaking tour guides, as France has a long history of cooperation with Cambodia, especially in education and culture. A well-established NGO in Siem Reap can not only support the local population but also contribute to sustainable development (education, empowerment, cultural preservation) in the country. This project addresses the educational and economic challenges faced by young people in Siem Reap, particularly those affected by the forced relocation of residents from the Angkor site, cutting them off from traditional sources of income. In a region where tourism is the main source of employment, fluency in French and English is a crucial asset for accessing professional opportunities. By offering free education, academic support, job guidance, and institutional assistance, this project aims to strengthen the autonomy of young Cambodians and promote their long-term social and economic integration.

This is what I need backing for.

create a new classroom ✅ Ensure academic and professional follow-up: offer shared housing for the older students ✅ Reinvent the teaching approach to make learning more interactive and lasting ✅ Coordinate the teaching team and centralize course content to better structure learning ✅ Purchase school equipment to support the work of volunteers on site, improve teaching and learning conditions, and provide school supplies, food, and clothing for the boarding students

To bring this meaningful and collective adventure to life, I’ve prepared a detailed portfolio to present the project and opened a fundraising page to help cover local needs. I’d be happy to share the portfolio by email if you’re interested.
