A nice house for the pigs

Inter-species coexistence applied

The Coexister sanctuary took up residence in 2019 in the gentle village of Frenières-sur-Bex (Swiss Alps). On these 5 hectares of land, two buildings dedicated to animals were already built when the place was purchased. One of them was almost new, the second one was particularly dilapidated. At the end of the third winter, the latter began to fall into ruin: water leaking from the ceilings and walls on rainy and snowy days, sanitary facilities freezing, urine-soaked beams dripping on the lower floor, floors not drying due to the ambient humidity, doors twisting, boards falling and crumbling, roof sagging… some spaces became unsanitary and unsafe, despite three daily cleanings and recurring repairs!

In 3 years, we have done a lot of extra work and tinkering in this building to meet the needs of the animals. But this is no longer enough and it is the structure that needs to be cleaned, maintained and consolidated, or it will eventually collapse.

Thanks to your support and your solidarity, the pigs, hens and rabbits who live there will finally be able to enjoy spaces perfectly adapted to their needs in the long term! For them and for the next ones who will escape the slaughterhouse to land at the Coexister sanctuary, this work is imperative and it will be done thanks to you.

The project in details

The total cost of the work is estimated at 118’000 CHF, and we will go up to this amount in stages, thanks to you, with a first stage of 68’000 CHF which will allow us to carry out the most urgent work!

Specifically, the work will include:

• Maintenance of the roof and reinforcement of the existing framework
• The replacement of boards and beams that are too rotten
• Reinforcement of the walls and waterproofing of the floors
• Drainage of the periphery of the building
• Installation of a system that will keep the sanitary installation from freezing
• Replacement of doors and windows
• Sanitation and improvement of electrical installations
• Installation of automatic anti-frost drinking troughs

The project is being carried out by the dedicated architectural firm BOarchitectes in Lausanne.

If, by some miracle, the funds raised exceed the financial forecasts for this work, the extra money will contribute directly to the daily maintenance of the sanctuary and the animals:

• Feeding
• Litter
• Veterinary expenses and care material
• Fixed expenses of the place
• Repairs and miscellaneous work
• Construction material
• Utility vehicles of the association
• Global logistics
• Administrative expenses

Indeed, our association works only on the basis of donations and is entirely voluntary. Solidarity is therefore fundamental!
