We need a fresh look and we need to begin here in Austria because Africa is also here!
Why is Africa is so important in Austria? Though Africa is far away, every day we are in touch with Africa, aren’t we?
Every day you dress yourself, where is the cotton from?
Every day you make phone calls and send emails. Where is the coltan from?
Surely you know that elements of many products (coffee beans, cocoa beans, cotton, coltan, etc.) come from Africa, right? So you see, you are in contact with Africa every day!
We need a trip to Africa
«Africa is far away.»- Many people would say that, right?
Yes, a trip to Africa often requires time, money, knowledge, and naturally, information. You do not always have to go far to discover something. You don’t have to travel to Africa, Africa’s diversity is also found in Austria.

Have you heard of «AFRINAVI»? Yes, no, maybe?
AFRINAVI will represent in a clear map, African diversity in Austria, and present a positive picture of Africa and the African diaspora, which has been the goal of RADIO AFRIKA for 18 years. Since March 21, 1997, RADIO AFRIKA has considered itself an information and communication platform for positive change in the Austrian media scene:
- about the diversity of people
- about the diversity of cultures
- about the diversity of landscapes
- about the diversity of economic possibilities between Africa and Europe
AFRINAVI is not Radio Afrika’s first project on this topic. For many years, Radio Afrika has worked tirelessly to create a positive picture of Africa. The most recent initiative was «24 Hour Africa» and the mapping in 2013. With the AFRINAVI online platform, we want to reach even more people.
AFRINAVI will be a dynamic website with the pivotal function of a map system of all of Austria, in which you can surf the following categories:
- Institutions: embassies and consulates, public information facilities, educational institutes for African history, culture, and language (e.g. Bambara, Swahili,…), museums
- Organisation and Initiatives: Information providers, NGOs, associations, etc.
- Art, Culture, and History: Places with Africa connections in Austria, street names of African origin, African crafts, African artists living in Austria, etc.
- Shops and Businesses: Culinary African restaurants, specialty shops, booths with African groceries, etc.; Cosmetics and Beauty- Hairdressers for African hair, clothes from African material, etc.
How will AFRINAVI function?
Simple navigation through specific categories give those interested a quick overview with clear descriptions of each category. After selecting a category, you will find more detailed information, such as a short description, contact information, photos, or the like.
AFRINAVI invites everyone to navigate through Austria with open eyes and discover meeting points between Austria and Africa. The aim is to make the presence of the African diaspora, African people, institutions with African connections visible, and therefore to make them come alive. AFRINAVI should bridge the gap between communities and the mainstream society.
How can you support us?
We would like to ask for your support! Through crowdfunding we would like to create the platform by making the user experience sensational!
For now we would need 15.000,00 € in order to set up a AFRINAVI project of premium quality, but we can begin with 8.000, 00 €.
With your contribution you would support the construction of this website:
- Concept (Information architecture, content strategy, etc. )
- Design (Art direction, responsive web design, etc.)
- Development (General: - Responsive front end development for 3 screen resolutions)
- Embedding the map systems, etc.; Map specific: –individualization of map systems on screen design basis, –tailored Wordpress input screen (including map maintenance system), etc.
- Preparation of the information bank structure and maintenance of information
