Cinema as a dialogue between cultures

The International Conservatory of Audiovisual Sciences in Locarno, through its network of international film schools, was involved in the project and decided to join it, in particular to welcome two young Palestinian filmmakers living in Gaza, Asil M. Al-Wadyia and Ahmed Abu Ajwa, young people who were recommended by the project’s promoter. The initiator of this campaign was Adam Broomberg, a photographer and filmmaker originally from South Africa and currently based in Berlin. With the help of his publisher, Michael Mack, once he had ascertained the availability of many art schools in both the United Kingdom and Europe to welcome students from Gaza, he launched a fundraiser.

Training path towards professional creativity

As indicated in their Curriculum Vitae, Ahmed and Asil possess the maturity and technical skills necessary to directly enter the third and final year of the CISA training program, with a specialization in film and television photography. They will be integrated into a group of other graduate students. The third year is structured to reflect the phases of a real film production. Students begin by developing a short film project and then participate in all phases of the creative and production process: from pre-production to production (filming), up to post-production (editing and mastering). Throughout their journey, students take courses taught by industry professionals, thus consolidating advanced technical skills and a professional approach to working on set.
