This is what it's all about.
In 1997 a friend of mine working for a development company invited me to Kyrgyzstan, a couple of years before the former soviet republic was released towards an uncertain future. As a photojournalist I was mainly interested in people’s life and their expectations of the future. I came back with 28 portraits and interviews of people living around Lake Issyk Kul in the Kyrgyz mountains.
10 years later and again this summer, I tried to meet these humans again. I found many of them, took again their picture and an interview. After all this work over 20 years I would like to meld these human histories in one single book, your support will help me to accomplish this project.
My project is special because ...
How do locations change, how does a country change? How do change human faces over the years, how do human lifes take their courses? And what about my own eye on these humans and this country? Photography is a stunning media, that allows to bridge time gaps and brings together the present and the past. The extracts from the interviews give us an insight in real lifes, they allow us to trace the development of the Kyrgyz society during the last 20 years.
This is what I need backing for.
The money I try to collect by crowdfunding should cover the production costs of this hardcover book edited in three languages (English, German, Russian).
All the expenses for the travelling, interviews, photo work, translation services in Kyrgyzstan are on my own charge.
If the goal of CHF 15’000.—is exceeded up to 30%, I will support punctually certain people from this project living in critical circumstances.
If the goal of CHF 15’000.—is exceeded by more than 30%, in addition to the above mentioned support, I will try to set up an exhibition in Kyrgyzstan and invite all the people portrayed to the opening.
