Biowaste into Wild Textiles!
Every day, tons of fruits and vegetables are discarded due to their short shelf life. While rescue organizations help extend this by one or two weeks, much of this produce still ends up as «waste.»
However, waste is a human-made concept—or perhaps just a bad habit. The good news is that we have the power to change it.
This organic matter can be repurposed as raw material through the action of bacteria, which transform the waste into cellulose, or what we call SCOBY using minimal resources. This cellulose is then combined with other remnants to create paper, plastic, and leather-like materials—without trees, petroleum, or animals.
Why -home- compostable?
Industrial compostable and home compostable are two different categories that can be confusing. If «home» is not next to the label «compostable», it means that what we throw away will only break down in industrial facilities where humidity, temperature, and time are controlled, and that involves transport, water and electricity.
However, if it ends up in the ocean, the forest, or simply in the organic waste bin, depending on the environment, they can take up to 80 years to degrade.. Not every product needs to last for generations, especially it that pollutes water, soil and air.
That’s why the Wild Materials are made;
100% home compostable, 100% free from toxic chemicals and made to order -Zero stock
This is what I need backing for.
The last three years I have financed the research myself and now I need your support to afford the next step of the Wild Textiles which involves:
-
buying some profi appliances like a mixer, mill, dehydrator, and containers, wooden forms and green chemicals so i can transform biowaste into wild textiles every week.
-
the recording of the Online-Workshop to show how easy is to create natural material from your own home with what you have available
-
to give birth to Biomaterials Vienna officially as an Start-Up, to keep the biowaste solutions Research & Developement true to the Cradle to Cradle values.
