Léviter où l’éviter ?

Camilo Agudelo is a photographer of the singular, of the individual extracted from the group in order to give him a lasting or ephemeral individuality, or of the team, of the crowd broken down into a thousand fragments. In his work, each person seems removed from visual gravity, levitating below the complete image, for the duration of a glance.

The exhibition brings together works belonging to different projects which offer a detached and intimate look, fleeing and levitating above the obvious – and remaining outside of humans and their staging. The absence of determination prevents the photographer from imposing his point of view: what he shows us oscillates between his perception of reality and that which he invites us to place on top of it.

The artist’s photos show us the presence of humans, but also their absence. A presence enhanced by the extraction of subjects from their context, like swimming bodies emerging from the water, alive but without the movement that keeps them afloat. And an absence that seems invisible to the eye, because the photo always shows something, even if it is black or total white.

The exhibition brings together works belonging to different projects which take a detached and intimate look, fleeing and levitating above the obvious – and remaining outside of humans and their staging.

The photographer stops life and freezes it; it is up to the public to restore it by appropriating the photos: their realism approaches (while moving away from) reality, whether it is looked at by a moving crowd – but broken up by the mosaic observation of the photographer – or simply frozen by the eye of the camera, which offers us life at the price of its immobilization.
