What is it about ?

«Dolphin» is a short-film of 20min that I’m making for my BA degree at SAE Institute Geneva. It’s a project that is particularly close to my heart, as it allows me to tackle several important themes, such as visual disability, the difference in perception between a sighted and a blind person, but above all the prejudices that we, sighted people, can have towards people with blindness.

«Dolphin» is a short film of 20 minutes that I am making for my Bachelor’s degree at the SAE Institute Geneva. It is a project that is particularly close to my heart, as it allows me to tackle several important themes, such as visual disability, the differences in perception between a sighted and a blind person, but above all the prejudices that we, sighted people, can have towards people with blindness.

My project is special because ...

With this film, I am trying to open a dialogue between two worlds that we have always tended to separate: the sighted and the blind. I think that the gap between these two worlds is much smaller than we think, but the topic of «disability» is very often taboo for those who are not directly concerned and this contributes to prejudice and marginalisation of those affected. I’m not trying to be a moralist, I’m just trying to show a different perception of the world than the one sighted people (including myself) know.

When I conceived this story, I thought in two ways: to tell a story with the image, but also with the sound, to make it interesting for someone who would not see it. During my research, I had the opportunity to talk to several blind people and spend a few days in a specialized school, which inspired me a lot for this project.

As I want to make this film available to people with blindness, it is also essential for me that it can be offered in audio description.

Another special feature of this film is its format. Having had the opportunity to learn how to film on digital cameras, we wanted to broaden our knowledge of a more traditional way of filming: with a film camera, for this last work as students. A sequence of this film, tracing the childhood of the two protagonists, will therefore be dedicated to this format.

This is what I need backing for.

Cinema always has a price and the production of a film always comes with significant costs.

The above amount will allow me to :

  • provide for the needs of the team (food, transport, first aid,…)
  • rent the technical equipment necessary for the realization of the project
  • acquire specific objects for the decorations and costumes
  • be able to integrate audio-description
  • enter the film in various festivals
