Education & Environment

Moken and circular economy
Support our project «Moken: Guardians of the Sea» which has been fighting plastic marine pollution since 2019 through collaboration with the Moken people, a marginalized population in Thailand.
The Moken are fishermen, formerly nomadic, living on islands in the Andaman Sea and very often discriminated against. Most of them have no identity papers and their children have no access to education, which limits their choices for the future.
For many years, the Jan & Oscar Foundation has supported the education of Moken children through scholarships, the construction of a school, and the creation of a social enterprise, Ranong Recycle for Environment. This enterprise, chaired by Mom Rajawongse Jaruvan Rangsit, aims to collect and recycle plastic waste from the ocean, allowing young Moken adults to train and work in ethical conditions.
While continuing their fishing activities, the Moken of the islands collect the plastic waste, then sell it to our company which provides them with additional income. The plastics are purchased and transformed by our Swiss and Spanish partners, Tide Ocean Material and Ecoalf, who recycle them into high quality sustainable objects.
Your participation will allow us to continue to protect the environment in collaboration with the Moken, through our collection center and our educational program.
Education, training and environment
Since its creation, the Jan & Oscar Foundation has been working toward education of underprivileged children in Thailand.
We raise awareness among the children of Ranong about the dangers of plastic pollution through the construction of waste banks in schools and the organization of educational workshops. Thanks to your donations, the children learn to understand the issues of plastic pollution through educational kits but also to become ambassadors of waste recycling to their families. They can then think of innovative solutions.
The Andaman Sea region and its islands are particularly affected by pollution. Raising awareness from a very young age seems to us to be essential in order to find sustainable solutions. Our educational program offers a triple benefit: economic, environmental and social.
We are convinced that knowledge and education can improve the conditions of all, for the benefit of the environment and the populations.
What will your donations be used for?
All the donations collected by this campaign will be used for our project in the south of Thailand. These donations will finance :
-
20 one-day workshops to educate children in a school about plastic pollution and the protection of local ecosystems,
-
24 training sessions of 6 hours for young adults of our collection center, so that they can develop their knowledge in many fields (language, computer, public speaking) and access more qualified jobs,
-
Supporting Moken plastic collectors with sorting training and the purchase of collection equipment so that they can collect plastic in the best conditions,
-
financial support for entrepreneurial plastic collection projects by the Moken in the communities on the islands of Surin, Ra, Pratong and Phayam islands.
With Christmas approaching, we suggest that you give your loved ones a meaningful gift by choosing a gift such as a bracelet or a coffee mug made of recycled plastic from our social enterprise, in order to contribute to the financing of educational workshops.
If you are offering a donation to a third party, please let us know at admin@fondationjan-oscar.ch , as well as if you would like a certificate for tax purposes (deductible in Switzerland).
