From the Island
For over five years, New York was my Island. I chose it to be my self imposed exile. I liked it there because it was full of surprises. Coming from post-communist Prague, that means something. I saw parades celebrating different nationalities and would always get one or two odd pictures out of these trips – not in the obvious scenes, but apart from them. I found interesting things happening off-centre.
I promised to my grandmother that I will make a book when I left Prague. It is meant as a collection of postcards from the encounters during my stay. When I moved to Switzerland in 2009, I wanted to close the New York project and make the book happen. Since then, I have been editing with artists and friends. Graphic design studio Atlas from Zürich made the layout. It looks great and I am really happy about it. Now I am looking for funding to realize this work.
It comes as an edition of 100. Color, 79 pages, stitch bound, size 22 x 29 cm.
Why you should back this project
The production of this edition costs roughly CHF 5’000, this includes the work of the graphic designers and the printing, but excludes my work as photographer, image processing and editing works. I would be really grateful if I could cover CHF 2’500 through wemakeit.
