Let us create Madeja Festival!

Dear friends,

We invite you to support the second edition of the International Józef Madeja Festival.

Due to the pandemic, our activities were severely limited. However, we continually tried to raise funds from different sources to make the next edition of our Festival possible. One of our successes was receiving funding from the Polish-German Cooperation Foundation (Stiftung für deutsch-polnische Zusammenarbeit) but for the grant to be paid - we need 50% of our own contribution. We are determined to continue the Festival despite all the difficulties and we don’t give up in our activities - that’s why we decided to start this crowdfunding project on wemakeit.com.

Our Association’s patron is Józef Madeja - an outstanding professor at the Academy of Music in Poznań - a clarinettist, a distinguished activist for musical life. As part of honoring Madeja’s activities, we have created an International Festival that allows us to keep the memory of this unique musician and composer in mind. The Józef Madeja Association is registered in the National Court Register, which is why you can deduct your donation from tax.

The Festival is planned from 9th-18th October, 2020. The events will take place in the concert halls of such institutions, as: Jankowice Palace, Ignacy Jan Paderewski Academy of Music in Poznań or Markgräfin-Wilhelmine-Gymnasium in Bayreuth. The project is addressed to a wide age group - from school children, through youth and students, working people and the elderly. Admission to all festival events is free of charge.

We care about the continuation of the Festival of high artistic rank and importance for the promotion of the work of Polish composers, especially those who have been creating in the Wielkopolska region. Our idea is to enrich the cultural life of the inhabitants of this area, in particular those living in rural communities and smaller cities. In the current edition of the Festival, our additional goal is to support artists who find themselves in an extremely difficult situation caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Our Association invites an internationally renowned concert artist to participate in each edition of the Festival – for the following edition we invited outstanding German clarinetist Dirk Altmann, who has been a soloist at the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra for over 30 years. In addition to orchestral work, he is a founder of several chamber ensembles – the «Ludwig Chamber Players» and the «Stuttgart Winds». Dirk Altmann will perform a recital and also conduct masterclasses for young, promising artists.

The concert program will include works by Polish composers, such as: Fryderyk Chopin, Maurycy (Moritz) Moszkowski, Franciszek Maklakiewicz and Ignacy Jan Paderewski. This year’s edition also intends to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Janina Garścia’s birth, the 250th anniversary of the birth of Ludwig van Beethoven, as well as premieres of works by contemporary composers from Poznań: Ewa Fabiańska-Jelińska and Piotr Pawlik.

All events of this year’s edition will be recorded audio-video and will be available online on our Youtube channel. The concerts will feature artists such as: vocal ensemble I Cantanti Ensemble, trombone quartet TrombQuartet and Apeiron Trio. In addition, the Clarinet Festival Orchestra will perform during the Opening Concert, which will be prepared and conducted by clarinetist Paweł Kroczek from the Paderewski Academy of Music in Poznań. Our media partners: POLMIC, TVP 3 Poznań, Radio Poznań, epoznan.pl.

Our project is special because...

During the festival we carry out many interesting events - concerts, lectures, master classes and meetings with exceptional artists from both Poland and abroad. The most talented pupils and students of Greater Poland schools and colleges are invited to participate in the Festival, who through their participation in the Festival promote culture in the region. During a special concert, they can perform in a unique orchestra, consisting exclusively of clarinetists!
