Kids will be kids...
unloved and abandoned factory produced dolls are transformed to little personalities:
The first step is cleaning the dolls, especially removing carefully their heavy make-up (that is why we call them «make under dolls») to make room for an individual face painting. Children love these more realistic dolls and are able to identify with the different personalities recognising in them another kid from their neighbourhood, a school buddy, perhaps even their best friend?
Following this idea we also replace the clothing which is practical and made of secondhand or surplus production textiles – fortunately I have got some helping hands for knitting and sewing. Finally I create and fit new bespoke shoes. Each doll gets a name and a serial number and is despatched with a «before and after» photo along with a Certificate of Authenticity.
I have been working with recycled products for many years now (I am in my mid 50’s) and my experience to date convinces me that both upcycling and recycling are not simply a passing trend but something we must incorporate into the modern world to protect the earths natural resources. Re-usable materials are all around us (my focus has been fabric, glass and paper) and we must teach the next generation methods of sustainability and the importance of limiting wastage wherever possible.
