How Eywa Project came about

It all began 2 years ago, when we were looking for a small plot of land to establish ourselves and launch our agroecological farm project. It was then that we arrived in this magical place, lost in the Colombian mountains, and immediately fell in love! Life here has a completely different rhythm, and nature is still abundant. And so Finca Eywa was born!

Finca Eywa is a human and environmental project. We want to grow organic food, applying permaculture principles, practice bioconstruction, and share this knowledge with the local community. In short, it’s a laboratory of ideas and experiments!

Recently, we had the opportunity to buy the land next door, which has been largely untouched by man over the last 30 years, apart from a small plot. It’s a tropical rainforest full of life, and this would be the perfect opportunity to turn it into a nature reserve and protect its trees and all the wildlife that lives there. It will be called the Eywa Reserve.

Why create a reserve here?

As in many other parts of the world, deforestation here in Colombia is progressing apace. As the countryside is repopulated, forests are cleared to sell timber, create pastures for cattle or monocultures of coffee, avocados, bananas… Unfortunately, the hunting of wild species is still common practice in the region, with the result that some species are becoming extremely rare, if not extinct.

The establishment of reserves spread across the country and the various ecosystems is a key element in the protection of local flora and fauna. This is all the more true as the region has a great diversity of species.

The purchase of this 3.5-hectare piece of forest enables the protection of species such as the crystal frog, the armadillo, the opossum and a variety of birds (Colombia is the country with the greatest diversity of birds in the world!)

This is what I need backing for.

Your support is essential if the Eywa reserve is to see the light of day! We need CHF 13,500 to buy the land and cover all notary fees.

To thank you for your support, we’re offering you a number of fantastic rewards in exchange. They all have a link with the Colombian territory and its great wealth.
