A film about the body, desire, and the love stories that teach us to disappear.

Niñagordita tells a fictional story set in Lima between 2002 and 2009.

Tali dreams of becoming a fashion designer, but she’s trapped — by men who desire her even as they teach her to disappear, by a society that demands she make herself smaller to be worthy of love. Between secret diets and quiet acts of self-harm, she sketches designs that imagine other possible bodies. When a new relationship shatters her sense of self, Tali has to destroy the version of herself she built to be loved before she can finally claim her place in the world.

Why this project matters

The film doesn’t just tell one woman’s story. It speaks to something so many women recognise: that slow, quiet lesson in making yourself small to be loved — lowering your voice, shrinking your body, taking up less space, believing it’s the price you have to pay for someone to stay.

Niñagordita began as a novel published in 2022. Since then, hundreds of readers have seen themselves in Tali: «I stayed silent too, so I wouldn’t lose someone.» «I learned to hate myself before I even knew who I was.»

That’s why we want to bring this story to the screen: because a film can spark a conversation that, all too often, starts too late. Supporting Niñagordita means joining that conversation — the one that tells young women that what they’re going through has a name, and that it’s not their fault.

What’s your support for?

Making independent films in Latin America is an enormous challenge. For over a year, an entire team has been volunteering their time to bring Niñagordita to life. We believe in it this deeply because the story is rooted in something very real.

In Peru, where the film is set, over 70% of women are unhappy with their bodies (Kantar, 2024), and one in two women aged 15–49 has experienced psychological, physical, or sexual violence at the hands of a partner (ENDES 2024). Behind these numbers lie stories no one is telling.

That’s why we want Niñagordita to be more than a film: in Peru, the project includes an impact programme — workshops, sessions in schools, and a social media campaign — to open up the conversation around body image, self-esteem, and young women’s mental health.

But first, the film has to be made. Shooting is set for November 2026 in Lima, with a release planned for summer 2027. Our goal is to raise CHF 30,000 to cover filming and post-production — every net franc will go straight to the project in Peru. Anything raised beyond that will finally let us pay those who have been working tirelessly, unpaid, for months.

Help us bring Niñagordita to the screen.
